Grounded 062 with Maurice Van Wyk

Born and raised in the Netherlands, it could be argued that minimal beats and bassline's is in their blood. But for 21 year old Maurice, his love for jumping on the decks is something that he only discovered recently in lockdown. Since falling in love with the scene in 2019 at his first rave at Thuishaven, he can't wait to get back on the dancefloor, and neither can we!

"During the lockdown I was really busy discovering new artists with unique sounds in order to expand my library for when we can party again."

- Maurice Van Wyk

What style of mix have you gone for?
For this mix I've chosen some deeper tracks with groovy basslines that will do great over your speakers and have you wanting to get back into the clubs as soon as possible.

What DJs have inspired your sound?
Chris Stussy & Prunk are my biggest inspirations, during their 1st and 2nd 10HRS B2B at Thuishaven I really knew that this was the sound I wanted to work with. Besides that I think Sidney Charles, DJOKO & Fabe (DE) are great producers/dj's.

What's your favourite part of the mix?
I personally enjoy the whole mix and the build-up from start to finish! I can't really choose a separate part to be honest.

How has the pandemic affected you?
The pandemic has caused me to start spinning records, I'm also working on producing music but I still have a lot to learn.

Has your style of music/sound changed during lockdown?
My own sound has grown enormously towards deep & minimal house. During the lockdown I was really busy discovering new artists with unique sounds in order to expand my library for when we can party again.

What do you think clubbing will look like in 2021?
I am convinced that when everything opens up again the vibe will be 10 times better than before. There are so many artists with so many new tracks ready to blow everyone away.

What's your top tip for surviving lockdown?
What has helped me is to be busy. Don't look for excuses to do nothing, look for things you like that you can do at the moment.

Do you have any 2021 goals you are happy to share?
I have many goals but one of my biggest at the moment is to be able to get behind the decks in 2021 and play at some great club nights or festivals in the Netherlands or UK.
