GROUNDED 053 with ROMAIN PELLEGRIN

One of the emerging faces of the French house & techno scene joins us today. Romain is a young artist, passionate about electronic music since the age of 15. He quickly began producing works of all kinds and multiplying sets in the best clubs in the South of France. Romain is a lover of house and techno tunes of the 90s, inspired by the emergence of the underground scene made in France and carried by tenors like Traumer, Julian Jeweil, Maceo Plex & Laurent Garnier. Both multi-instrumentalist and machine lover, he remains just as comfortable in the studio as he is on stage and does not hesitate to show us his great musical diversity. His single, signed by Way Of House (Label of Greg Delon & Joris Delacroix) confirms this! We caught up with Romain to discuss how his positive mindset has kept him going in a devastating year and the 2021 goals that he has planned...

What style of mix have you gone for?

I chose to make a SET House DJ that I recorded on my PIONEER DJM 2000 + 2 CDJ's 1000MK2 control room.

What DJs have inspired your sound?

I have been a huge fan of all kinds of music since I was little and it was very difficult for me to determine my favorite style. To date I am moving towards House and Techno, so I would say that the dj's who inspire me the most currently in these styles are Maceo Plex, Traumer and Axel Boman to name a few because there are thousands of DJ's / Composers who inspire me.

What’s your favourite part of the mix? My favorite part of the mix is when I play because I love to challenge myself technically and try to breathe new life into the songs to make the mix dynamic.

How has the pandemic affected you?

It's simple, I've never had so many dates planned as in 2020, it must have been a year filled with dates, meetings, sharing, fun and all this fell through because of the Covid19. I try to stay positive and not think about it too much by producing a lot of music.

Has your style of music/sound changed during lockdown? As mentioned before, for many years I tried to affiliate myself with one genre of music and particular style. Covid allowed me to refocus on myself and to know that it is ok to move away from this idea, and make music of different styles as I love all types of music, so this was a big step for me.

What do you think clubbing will look like in 2021? I think it will be very complicated to review clubbing in 2021, n my opinion iwe will be moving towards external establishments this year!

What’s your top tip for surviving lockdown? Keep your head up, be positive, you have to set goals, develop projects to emerge strong from this sad period. This is what I have been doing since March 2020 and honestly I am holding on.

Do you have any 2021 goals you are happy to share? Of course, I am developing an abuml with a multi-instrumentalist artist and we are in the process of mixing acoustic music with electronic music to offer a live scene if we can do it well!

I also just signed 2 EP's with the EP DIGITAL MUSIC Label, and I am currently working in collaboration with several artists on EP's, whilst becoming a beatmaker of a rapper that I am a big fan of! So lot's going on this year!
