As we get ready for the opening of pubs, events, gyms, and going to back to work, kickstart the week right with Obskür. This week’s mix features an Ireland based duo, who have caught the attention of some of the industries biggest DJs, including Danny Howard and Darius Syrossian...

Firstly, how did you guys meet and become a duo?

We actually first met when we were both 14/15 while playing underage gigs together in an old venue called Buck Whaleys (that’s gone now). Back then we used to play very commercial stuff but as we grew our taste in music started to change over time as we would be digging through different genres of music and seeing what was out there. It came to the stage where we genuinely weren’t feeling the whole commercial side of things at all and thought we needed a change. That was when we joined forces and obskur was born.

What style of mix have you gone for?

We approached this mix along with all of our other mixes as sets that we'd be playing in clubs so we started off with some deeper/slower tracks and gradually building the vibe to more faster/peak time stuff as we feel it is important to gradually build a set and be able to tell a story with it.

What DJs have inspired your sound?

Patrick topping, Skream, Jackmaster, Eats everything and many others as we try to get some sort of inspiration from all the dj's we’d listen to/have seen live.

What’s your favourite part of the mix?

Shameless plug lol – 1:25:00 – 1:28:30 which is one of our favourite productions to date and possibly our next single which is currently an ID. Should have a name and release date very soon ;)

How has the pandemic affected you both?

The pandemic has affected everyone quite badly mentally and were no different but the negatives aside we feel like we have been the most productive in terms of music than we've ever been so we're really happy with that.

What do you think clubbing will look like in 2021?

I hope that nothing will change and all will go back to normal.

Has your style of music/sound changed during lockdown?

Wouldn’t say it has changed but it definitely has improved as we have been spending a lot more time searching for new sounds to use in our tracks along with doing plenty of research and investing in some new production gear to help us get even more creative with our music. We recently bought a Roland MC-707 groovebox which is a beast.

What do you think clubbing will look like in 2021?

Clubbing will definitely look very different to what we had seen it before the pandemic hit, Venues will be operating with less capacity and with many different health and safety procedures in place but we think that events and music will be appreciated a lot more when things do go back to normal. Speaking about this is making us drool thinking of stepping foot into a club/festival again haha.

What’s your top tip for surviving lockdown?

Go on plenty of walks, catch up with your mates, relax and look after yourself as much as possible both mentally and physically. Well be out of this very very soon (Hopefully) so hang in there!

Do you have any 2021 goals you are happy to share?

The ultimate goal and dream for us and plenty of others we'd imagine is to get back to the clubs/festivals and play out all the new music we have made over lockdown. Getting to squeeze in a festival this summer would be a big one.
